While we mourn our digital losses, an incomparably deeper heartbreak is unfolding in the physical world. In East Kalimantan, a historic milestone is taking place with the construction of the new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN). We support national progress, but we cannot remain deaf to the silent agony of the innocent creatures sacrificing their sanctuary for our future--the Bornean Orangutans.

This massive development spans over 256,000 hectares of land, requiring tens of thousands of hectares of ancient rainforests to be systematically cleared. To humans, it's a statistic of progress. To them, it's the end of their world.

Can you feel their sheer terror? The internet bore witness to historic, gut-wrenching moments that shocked the world:

The devastating sight of a confused, starving Orangutan forced to wander into human settlements just to find a scrap of food because its migration path was severed.
The soul-crushing video of an exhausted Orangutan desperately trying to fight off a giant excavator with its bare hands, trying to shield the last standing tree of its demolished home.

Modern infrastructure is essential, but letting an endangered species vanish in painful silence is a tragedy. They cannot protest, they cannot type out their pain, and they cannot ask for a green corridor. If we don't become their voice, they will fade away forever.

WHO IS DEV?

Dev is a Borneo native raised deep within the Kalimantan interior. Rooted in the Kutai and Banjar tribes, Dev grew up surrounded by the island's unique endemic wildlife, witnessing their lives in the wild from a very young age.

Today, however, Dev watches with deep heartache and disappointment as the natural world fractures and drastically changes, putting countless species--especially the iconic Orangutan--on the brink of extinction.

While Dev highly respects national progress and the government's infrastructure development efforts, it must not come at the cost of wildlife annihilation. Dev firmly believes there must be immediate, concrete actions taken to shield these innocent creatures and save them from completely vanishing forever.
